“Some places in Paris are cursed. The pedestrian crossing on place de la Concorde is located right where the guillotine was erected during the Terror two hundred years ago.
Nowadays, a few extremely agile pedestrians manage to escape the howling mob of cars. To enjoy this sadistic spectacle, there’s no better spot than the terrace of the Naval Ministry, where the brass sometimes authorize access for a period not exceeding thirty minutes.
An unbribable sailor makes sure the allotted period is not exceeded.”
- Robert Doisneau

Check out these amazing photos of the construction of Oscar Niemeyer’s Brasilia. (Click on the thumbs for high res) They were taken by Marcel Gautherot and are from a new book called Building Brasilia. Click for a little interview with the architect that i posted a while little back.
