Immersive Surfaces - Projection Mapping Art Project at Manhattan Bridge (via Design Boom)
‘immersive surfaces’ is a projection installation that maps the elevation of the manhattan bridge anchorage and archway. exploring the idea of ‘crowd art’ while pushing the boundaries of new cutting-edge video technology, the exhibition features pieces created by over 20 international artists and curators on a surface measuring over 2,700 m2.
investigating the notions of projected depth and the meaning of surface, the installation puts at its focus the connection between individuals and the greater group, displaying multiple types of projections in three parts. the first shows more traditional types of video art and presentation techniques which slowly progresses to take over the entire surface of the anchorage and archway.
much like a virtual gallery, individual pieces are projected in small units and are connected by a common canvas. the second segment sees this collective projection become animated until ‘as above, so below’, the third section (see video below), takes over the three-dimensional site.More information (including a video) can be found here
